On July 31, 2023, the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) announced the formation of a National Pipeline Advisory Group (Group) to help shape a national strategy to address the accounting profession’s talent shortage. The Group’s work is part of a multi-pronged approach that includes an intensive effort to use technology, surveys and in-person forums to solicit insights and input from diverse groups around the country. The strategy is expected to address the profession's image, educational and experience requirements and short- and long-term actions that address the profession's human capital needs.

According to a public announcement made by the AICPA,

"The CPA pipeline is a shared concern for everyone in the accounting profession. In response, the AICPA convened a National Pipeline Advisory Group to study the hurdles, assess and address contributing factors, and develop a plan for the profession that is inclusive of its many stakeholders.
